Solo Flight

I was reminded today

That I take too many solo flights.

Too often,

When in the midst of fellow soarers,

I can’t wait

To break free

Of the apparent restrictions

And hindrances

Of flying with others.

When I do

Strike out on my own,

I don’t often look at the formation.

When I do,

I realize my spot is vacant.

They can fly without me.

At times,

Others break off from the group

And fly on their own.

There is a time

We must all come together

To accomplish

Our corporate purpose.

For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them… (Romans 12:4-6, ESV).
