Invisible Tethers

It’s amazing

How dense I can be.

I’ve flown,

Off and on,

For almost five decades.

Most of the time,

I recognize the lies

That keep me grounded,

That hold me back.

However…

Excuses?

I have an entire arsenal of them.

I’m too tired.

(Eating right, staying active and getting enough sleep

Are good solutions.)

Maybe I’m just being selfish.

(Taking care of myself is not selfish;

I can’t encourage others to fly,

If I’m dragging myself around.)

Maybe it isn’t my Destiny.

(If I have the knowledge

And the resources,

It’s my responsibility to make

The best possible use of

Every opportunity.)

It’s too late now.

(Let me check…

Yep, I’m still breathing…)

If my pursuits don’t equip me

To be a blessing,

If I find

It’s all about Me,

Then I need to re-evaluate.

Otherwise,

I need to cut the invisible tethers

And fly!

…let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…(Hebrews 12:1-2, ESV)
