Just Fly

Today’s Lesson: How Not to Fly

Huddling in the nest.

Keeping my wings folded.

Contemplating the flight lessons

I’ve already learned.

Wondering if I’ve gotten it wrong

From Day One.

Worrying about tomorrow’s flight

And missing out on today’s.

Desiring to see the Ultimate Destination

While remaining earthbound.

Blaming others…

I’m surrounded by those

Who won’t clip my wings

Or tether me to the ground.

Or simply glancing at

The Flight Manual.

Allowing myself to become

So busy

That I don’t make the most

Of my Flight Instructor’s

Open invitation

To commune 24/7.

Why would I try to figure out

This Flight Thing

On my own

When He is willing to teach me

Everything I need to know

At exactly the right time?

At this point,

I may feel like a hatchling,

Still exercising her underdeveloped wings

On the side of the nest.

In reality,

My wings are those of an eagle.

They were a gift.

My responsibility…

To spread them

And rise above

The doubt and confusion.

those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:31, NIV).
