Tied Down

This is one of those statuses that is floating around facebook. I thought it was important to repost it, so I rewrote it as a poem. (Thank you to the author…whoever and wherever you are.)

The girl you called fat

Has been starving herself

And has lost 15 pounds.

The boy you called stupid

Has a learning disability

And studies four hours a night.

The girl you called ugly

Spends hours putting on makeup,

Hoping people will like her.

The boy you tripped

Is already abused enough at home.

There’s more to people than you think.

And here are my thoughts…

Don’t think

Children and young people

Are the only perpetrators

Or the only victims.

I must be careful

That my words

Encourage and build up

For they are powerful.

I will never help others fly

If I tie them to the earth

With an uncaring

Word or look.

…encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone (1 Thessalonians 5:14, NIV).
