Invest My Time

It has been

A hot and muggy summer

Until now.

Things are cooling down.

And while I’m not complaining

It’s a reminder that…

What cliche shall I use?

Time is flying.

Time is marching on.

It’s later than I think.

Oh, well

I guess all are appropriate.

They are also a good reminder

That I must

Make the most of every opportunity.

When I was on my writer’s retreat

I accomplished

Far more than I thought possible.

I came home armed with

A new schedule

To keep me on track

Time will fly

And life will happen.

I will get to the end of

The week

The month

The year

And wonder where it went.

Twice in the last couple of months

I’ve heard speakers say we must

Narrow our field of vision.

Refuse to take on too many things…

Even good things.

While I am still

I must make the most

Of each hour.

Of each day.

I must focus on

The task at hand

At any given moment

And invest…

Rather than spend…

My time

Accomplishing what’s before me.

I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 NIV).
