Straighten Up

Straighten up

And fly right.

So the saying goes.

For years…

Most of my life, actually…

I’ve been flying upside down.

In our affluent society

I’ve come to realize

There are Spenders (me)

And Savers (not me).

Truth be told…

And I’m a big fan of truth…

I’ve justified spending

Even when the money wasn’t there.

(Kudos to all of you who don’t.)

Because of where we’re at

I’m learning to rejoice

When I turn aside

From big expenses

And small ones.

When I look at the bank account

And anticipate costs

I can cut.

I’m not the first person

In this situation

Nor will I be the last.

However

Instead of suffocating from the panic

(That’s where I was)

I’m now rejoicing in the fact

That maybe

Just maybe

I’ll be flying

Right-side up

Before too long.

Even before my creditors

Have time to scratch their heads

And ask,

What’s going on here?

Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another (Romans 13:7-8, NIV).
