Thanksgiving Thanks

Why am I thankful today?

(the abbreviated version)

A new day.

My husband.

Our three.

Our home.

My online friends.

Health and strength.

The fall colours.

The smell of fall.

The sound of leaves beneath my feet.

(Do you get the impression I like this time of year?)

A walk.

Well, more of a saunter with countless stops to snap photos.

A silly little camera.

(My good camera doesn’t work. Sigh!)

Sight. Hearing. Taste. Touch.

Even smell – if there hasn’t been a skunk in the neighbourhood.

Excitement over the development of a new service for editing clients.

Anticipation of a turkey dinner with the family

Sadly, minus one.

(We’ll miss you, Joshua.)

Tomorrow night’s writers group.

And last for now…

I just heard an artist friend sold his first painting.

Yay!

Lots of reasons to be thankful.

Lots of reasons to fly.

Thanksgiving blessings, all!

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights (James 1:17 NIV).

Count Your Blessings

When I count my blessings

These people,

Plus many others,

Are on the list.

My father – who taught me about hard work.

My mother – who taught me about faith.

My brother – who taught me to laugh.

My sister – who taught me what it means to honour your parents.

My extended family – who taught me the more family members you have, the more love you have.

My husband – who taught me the meaning of unselfishness.

My three grown children – who taught – and continue to teach – me more than I could ever teach them.

The friends I’ve known for years…

The friends I’ve met recently…

The friends I’ve never met in person…

All my friends – who’ve taught me my heart can hold great joy in ever-increasing measure.

If you’re reading this and don’t see yourself listed, know this: I am thankful for you too.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

My Abba Father, my Saviour, the Holy Spirit – from whom all blessings flow.

You’re the Bestest

Can my family and friends

Count on me?

Not necessarily to do

All the things

They think

I should.

But to be there for them.

When push comes to shove,

Would they know

I’m one of those

Call-in-the-middle-of-the-night friends?

I hope so.

I wanna be.

And it’s so much fun

To surprise someone

By saying YES

When they expect a NO.

I used to sternly call

One of my children.

He would wonder

What he’d done wrong.

And to his surprise,

I’d say,

I LOVE YOU!

I want to be that kind of friend.

A call-me-at-midnight.

Look-to-delight-you.

You-are-the-bestest.

Kinda friend.

After all,

Without family and friends,

I have no wings.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us…if it is to encourage, then give encouragement (Romans 12:6,8 NIV).
